The pain has come on suddenly in either the upper or lower back, often with no obvious cause. In its nature the pain is deep, dull and ‘achy’. The pain may radiate down the adjacent arm or leg, making it feel weak. Once the pain is present any movement of the area is often agonising. Pressure over the affected area aggravates the pain and makes it uncomfortable to sit or to lie down. A prolonged period of this constant, unremitting pain and disturbed sleep, in many, leads to feelings of anxiety and depression. All these things being so, it may be that you are suffering from myofascial pain.
